Here we see the 3 tables
bolted together. The entire setup rolls around on the carpet very
easily.
I did design a track plan to
follow, but first I roughly located the buildings.
The outside edges of the table have pine
corner protectors nailed in place, and also hold down the edge of the
mat.
Hunting down vintage pieces
(some new!) was alot of fun. I spent about 9 months on ebaylooking for track, trains, and structures. Extra
pieces not needed sold quickly back on ebay.
The turntable is at least 45 years old, brand new!
This metal 3 stall engine
house cleaned up nicely with hot soapy water and a good rinse.
I dried it well and then used an air gun in the
shop to get as much moisture out as possible.
It's seen enough rust.
The Marklin metal bridges
are easily available, but maybe half of what you find is in good shape.
The hardest items to find are the plastic bridge
piers.
The 5' x 12' board filled up
fast!
A number of older plastic
buildings was a great find, and added alot to the future city area.
Those dreaded bridge
piers. The warped ones are impossible to fix or re-bend back into
shape. So I made my own out of Aspen.
Primed with a grey auto
primer and then some rusty red primer gave the new wood piers a close
match to the originals.
All of the items shown in these pictures, as part of the
layout, is for sale in ONE LOT only. The 3 tables
are also available for an additional price, and cannot be shipped.
