INSTALLING YOUR CORK ROADBED

The cork roadbed can be nailed or glued down. Wood glue works well, and the cork can be taped down until the glue dries, 1-2 hours.  After locating the track centerline, locate your turnouts first and install the cork switch pads. Fill in between turnouts with strip cork.  

For Z scale modelers:
Locating the track centerline and cork edge is easily drawn using the Itty Bitty Lines "Radius Rule". (Scroll down to the bottom of this page.)

The double track strips can be split lengthwise for easier installing around a curve.  Single track roadbed is easily conformed to curves using glue and pins  or tape as described above.  It can also be cut lengthwise to help in installing, where one half is glued down first along the centerline.

To attach the track most modelers use the Marklin track spike #8999.  They are small, so if there is  plywood or wood behind the cork you should pre-drill a small hole.  Glue also works but is also more permanent and harder to undo if the track needs to be adjusted.  Do not use glue under the turnouts, as some might get into the mechanism.
